Head Coach

Turkish get up, Sept '12

CrossFit Wash Park is co-owned (with his wife Kristina) and run by head coach Ethan Goetz.  Ethan holds a CrossFit Level 1 Certification, and has hundreds of hours of experience training and coaching with CrossFit workouts.  He strongly believes that perfecting fundamental fitness movements is the key to maintaining safety and maximizing performance. A former college baseball player, Ethan has been involved in athletics his entire life and is an avid snowboarder.  He has a strong personal committment to constantly getting fitter, stronger, and faster, and has a passion for helping others do the same.

Additionally, Ethan realizes fun is an essential component of exercise and does not take himself too seriously.  While he is pretty good at doing pullups, he's also quick to point out he's pretty bad at growing a beard, getting a tan, or not wearing the same gym pants every day (which his wife loves to point out).

  • CrossFit Level 1

  • CrossFit Gymnastics

  • CrossFit Mobility

  • CrossFit Kids

Some of our athletes asked for us to shamelessly link a video of Ethan making a 49" box jump on 3/3/12. Please ignore the Howard Dean-like yell afterwards (or blame it on Ross, who is just off camera to the right).

Ethan can be reached at ethan@crossfitwashpark.com.

Coaches

After nearly a year of hearing Ethan go on and on about CrossFit and seeing their garage slowly lose space for anything non-CF related, Kristina Goetz gave it a shot in the fall of 2011, becoming one of the founding members of CrossFit Wash Park. She has been hooked ever since, and is CF L1 Certified.  She is currently hitting PR's at an insane rate aOverhead squat, Aug '12nd transforming her body to never-before seen levels ("I'm in better shape than when I played college soccer nearly 15 years ago!"). She offers a unique perspective on CrossFit, having gone from skeptic to believer, as well as finding CF after having 2 kids. She is also a fantastic chef of Paleo meals (as decided by Ethan).  A true firebreather (she actually LIKES burpees!), you won't be able to miss Kristina if you're in a WOD with her - just listen for the near constant stream of "ohmygodwhatishappeningican'tfeelmyarms!" and "ohnothereigodroolingagain..." Kristina can be reached at kristina@crossfitwashpark.com.

Competitions:

  • 2013 CF Open, participant

  • 2013 Battle of the Rock, particpant

Dan Rogan joined the CFWP coaching staff in January and quickly became an integral part of our community.  He received his CF L1 Cert in April 2012, and gained apprentice coaching experience at Rugged Crossfit in Boston before moving to Denver from New England in late 2012. Familiar with Outlaw CrossFit and CrossFit Football programs, Dan is a monster in both CF ability and coaching knowledge, especially when it comes to Olympic Lifts. Whether his tips come in the form of cool warm-up stretches or nuances of lifting technique, you always seem to come away from his classes a little more knowledgeable than when you walked in.  His music choices for WODs, on the other hand, have been deemed questionable at best, and veteran CFWP'ers often veto his Michael Buble and Taylor Swift playlists before he can call "3-2-1-go!".  Don't be intimidated by arms and thighs that require their own area code though, as Dan is as easy going and approachable as they come. Dan can be reached at dan@crossfitwashpark.com.

Competitions:

  • 2013 CF Open partipant

  • 2013 Southwest Regionals, team member FRCF

Loren Sjoquist

moved from Minneapolis to Denver in September of 2012 and joined CrossFit Wash Park in May of 2013.  His athletic background of baseball, football, diving, and cross country set the foundation for being an incredibly well-rounded CrossFit athlete.  He has a training background in both weight lifiting, gymnastics (thank you diving!) and endurance activities, and Loren continued his CrossFit development by completing his

CF L1 Cert

this year.

As an individual, Loren is a monster athlete (which you'll see when you're in a class with him that he's not coaching) just scratching the surface of his CF potential as he forays into the competition side of the sport. His fiercest competitor is his dog Lexi during sprints.

As a coach, Loren promotes the same things that allow him to be successful in the gym: accountability from community, strength through fundamentals, and enjoyment in sport.  He believes that CrossFit is for everyone,  truly enjoys sharing in the successes of each and every athlete at CFWP, and is always more than happy to help athletes with one-on-one skill work after class or in open gym. CFWPers have come to accept the brutal ab cashouts Loren puts them through right after peeling themselves off the floor from their daily WOD (alternating one-arm/one-leg planks anyone?).
