What To Expect

Each training session lasts about an hour and typically includes the following portions:

  • Warm Up

  • Stretch/Mobility work

  • Skill Practice and/or Strength Focus

  • Workout of the Day (WOD)

We believe in mastering basic, functional CrossFit movements before moving on to more advanced techniques.  Our athletes sign up for classes in advance so that workouts are customized for each athlete no matter their level, or the level of the other athletes in a group session.  Loads for the weight training aspects of the workouts are scaled as needed by our coaches, as are the number of reps and/or time of the workout.  Excercise substitutions are common as well, for those not yet ready for a more advanced workout component.  You will not be asked to do a movement or load in a workout until you have gained experience with it in a skill practice. We push our athletes to aim for a balance between maintaining excellent technique and increasing intensity.

Although we strive for our athletes to gradually move to heavier and more difficult movements, no matter your fitness level, you will work hard!  Workouts at CrossFit Wash Park are intense, and often shorter in duration than in many other fitness programs or group class atmostpheres.  The WOD component of the training session is typically a timed event following one of two formats: (1) do A, B, C as many times as you can in a given amount of time, or (2) find out how long it takes you to do X, Y, Z a given number of times. The times and loads used during a workout are tracked in a personal log in order to demonstrate progress and show growth in the future.

Group size is limited to ensure a high-degree of personal instruction during every phase of the training session; our coaches aim to immediatey correct improper technique in a positive manner. We believe that group training sessions motivate our athletes to push just that little bit harder, as well as foster a community that embraces hard work, dedication, and a belief in maintaining life-long fitness.
